Empowering the Next Generation of Climbers

Ben Nevis Ninjas 5 - 7 yrs

Our Ben Nevis Ninjas class is the perfect introduction to climbing for our youngest adventurers and absolute beginners. Designed to make their first steps into climbing fun, exciting, and confidence-building, sessions provide a friendly and supportive environment where children can learn, explore, and discover the joy of being on the wall.

Through fun games, challenges, and climbing activities, young climbers will begin developing the essential skills they need, including balance, coordination, grip, footwork, and movement. Along the way, they’ll learn how to climb safely, listen to instructions, and start finding their own solutions to simple climbing challenges.

With guidance from our qualified and enthusiastic instructors, every session is designed to help children feel comfortable and confident while trying something new. We encourage curiosity, independence, and resilience, celebrating every little achievement as they begin their climbing journey.

Ben Nevis Ninjas is perfect for young children who are completely new to climbing and ready to have fun, make friends, and discover what they can do on the wall.

EXPECTATIONS AND PRACTICES

Participation Statement

At Edventures, we believe climbing should be accessible, enjoyable and meaningful for every young person, regardless of their starting ability, confidence or experience.

Our approach to youth participation is centred on fun, inclusion, personal development and progression. We want young people to develop a lasting relationship with climbing rather than simply attend a session. Through positive experiences, appropriate challenge and supportive coaching, we aim to help young people build confidence, resilience, communication, problem-solving skills and a sense of achievement.

We recognise that young people participate for different reasons. For some, climbing is about being active and having fun with friends; for others, it provides an opportunity to challenge themselves, develop new skills or progress towards competition and outdoor climbing. Our programmes therefore provide multiple pathways into and through climbing, allowing each young person to progress at a pace and in a direction that is appropriate for them.

A key part of our approach is developing independence. As young people gain experience and competence, we encourage them to take increasing ownership of their climbing, make decisions, manage appropriate risks and support one another. We see this development of autonomy as an important part of participation and of preparing young people to continue climbing beyond structured sessions.

We are committed to reducing barriers to participation and creating an environment where young people feel welcomed, valued and able to belong. We aim to provide opportunities for young people from different backgrounds, abilities and levels of experience to participate together, while adapting our coaching and activities to individual needs.

Ultimately, our goal is not simply to create better climbers, but to create confident, connected and active young people who want to keep climbing. By providing positive experiences, meaningful progression and opportunities to develop independence,

Edventures aims to support young people in becoming lifelong participants in climbing and the wider outdoor community.

Behaviour & Safety

We appreciate that every child is an individual, with their own needs, abilities, and requirements. To get the most out of our Kids Club sessions, children need to be able to:

  • Listen to and follow safety instructions from their instructor
  • Take part in social games, activities, and warm-ups with a climbing focus
  • Maintain a safe level of behaviour that is appropriate for a climbing centre, rather than a playground, and suitable for their age
  • Stay with their instructor throughout the session

Climbing is an incredibly inclusive sport when supported and managed effectively. However, our Kids Club sessions may not be suitable for every child. If you feel your child may find it difficult to participate fully in a group setting, please get in touch with us before booking so we can discuss their individual needs and explore the best options.

If a child’s behaviour becomes consistently unsafe for themselves or others, we will work closely with the child and their parent or guardian to understand the situation and try to find a suitable solution. Where this is not possible, we reserve the right to cancel their club membership and recommend alternative sessions or arrangements that may be more appropriate.

Parental Supervision

Participants aged 4–12 must be accompanied by an adult when checking in for each visit and the adult must remain in the building throughout the session.

Participants aged 13–17 may check in independently, provided a parent or guardian has completed the online waiver before their first session.

Bookings, Billing and Cancellations

Your booking reserves your child’s space in their climbing clubs. This must be paid in full, in advance of the first session scheduled.

Your child is welcome to start at any point in the Term; however, the full fee will still apply. For best value, you may prefer to begin at the start of the next term, especially if you’re looking for expert-led expeditions that enhance their outdoor adventures.

Cancellations

If you wish to stop attending, you must inform us at least 2 weeks before the date you wish your child to leave. Your child is welcome to attend until the end of their final billed month.

Please note:

We do not offer partial refunds if you stop attending part‑way through a month.

Injuries, Holidays & Missed Sessions

We understand that children may sometimes miss sessions due to illness, injury, family holidays, or other commitments. Unfortunately, we are unable to refund payments in these circumstances. Your fee reserves your child’s space within the climbing clubs, and we cannot offer discounts or partial refunds for:

missed weeks

personal or family holidays

illness or injury

national holidays

any other absence
